MCR are very proud to launch this Brazilian coffee this year! Inacio is one of their first direct trade partners and he is doing amazing work in Mata de Minas. São Sebastião do Anta, the region where Inacio's farm is located, is not exactly known for coffee cultivation. In fact, when Inacio was young, his father mainly traded in conventional coffees. He was indoctrinated by green traders who told Jairo that he would never be able to produce specialty coffee on his farm. Inacio himself had no intention of taking over the farm from his father, but when Jairo became seriously ill, Inacio returned to the fazenda and his passion for carrying on his father's legacy blossomed.
After his father's death, Inacio made it his mission to improve the farm from the ground up. He is a young, ambitious farmer who is open to new ideas, from soil management to processing to drying, and the results in the cup really speak for themselves. The farm is so small that no mechanical picking machines are used, which is generally unusual in Brazil. The care and attention to detail in harvesting and processing are of utmost importance to Inacio, and he believes that his investments in the farm can enhance the entire community. The community benefited immediately from the second harvest because the prices achieved were significantly higher than when the business was focused on conventional high-yield production.
What's even more impressive is that these are the same coffee plants that were sold as conventional coffee. In the past they had reached less than 80 points for selling on the market, but now, with Inacio's drive for change, he has already brought this amount to 86 points. We are incredibly proud of Fazenda Jairo Soares' achievements and believe that the best is yet to come!
