21,50 €
Flavor Notes: Lemon, Jammy, Floral
Producer: Negusse Debela & 400 smallholder producers
Origin: Gedeb, Yirgacheffe - Ethiopia
Cultivars: Wolisho, Dega
Process: Red Honey
This coffee was produced by smallholder farmers in the village of Worka Chelbesa and processed at one of the wet mills operated by Negusse Debela in the same village. Negusse now manages two sites in Worka Chelbesa, including this one in the Danche sub-area, processing Washed, Natural, and unique experimental lots to continually enhance the quality of the final product. This marks the first occasion that we have stocked a honey-processed Ethiopian coffee, given its infrequent availability.
Worka Chelbesa is situated in the Gedeb woreda, the southernmost part of the Gedeo zone. The area is renowned for its dense semi-forest vegetation, featuring Ensete trees and other shade plants, providing optimal conditions for shade-grown coffee.
Local farmers cultivate Wolisho and Dega variety coffee, which are landrace varieties from the Yirgacheffe region. Cherries are handpicked before being transported to the processing station, where they undergo manual sorting before processing. The sorted cherries are then pulped and dried on raised beds until reaching their ideal humidity. Following drying, all coffee undergoes a final manual sorting before being prepared for export.
This coffee was sourced from SNAP Specialty Coffee. Established in 2008 by Negusse Debela in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, SNAP operates three washing stations in the Gedeo zone and collaborates with additional washing stations in Guji and West Arsi.
